On October 9, Hughes Network Systems announced that its Hughes Europe (HE) subsidiary had secured a ten-year satellite broadband service contract with M2M value-added reseller Emtele. The two partners will be supplying Finnish energy company Elenia with broadband Internet-from-satellite services.
Hughes’ HN System platform and related satellite services allow FieldCom -the broadband network service operated by Emtele- to cover the entire country of Finland. As per their contract, HE and Emtele have already implemented the Smart Grid solution for Elenia.
According to Mr. Hannu Martikainen, chief executive officer of Emtele, the agreement with Hughes was important in ensuring connection service availability and quality that were hallmarks of Emtele.
In his statement, Mr. Martikainen explained that the electric distribution grid is a critical national infrastructure. Hughes Europe was selected because its advanced satellite technology has an unrivalled track record of reliability further supported by a highly responsive service support team. Hughes’ significant satellite footprint will allow Emtele to fulfill the expansion plans of Elenia and other such companies.
Mr. Martikainen did not disclose the financial details of Emtele’s satellite broadband contract with Hughes Europe.
