MTN celebrates 15 years of providing satellite Internet services for cruise ships

Today’s the day MTN Satellite Communications celebrates fifteen years of providing Internet connectivity solutions to cruise ship passengers and crewers.

Ever since MTN first debuted its Internet Café solution in 1999, more than 150 million people have enjoyed Internet connectivity while cruising through some of the world’s most remote regions. The satellite communications provider remains the world leader in providing innovative communication solutions to cruise ship passengers and crew.

Launched in 1999, Internet Café was the culmination of a two-year “proof of concept.” It tapped MTN’s Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) technology to provide satellite Internet connectivity to passengers and crew members alike.

MTN has come a long way from those early days. It now offers onboard WiFi, MTN Worldwide TV, the recent Connect at Sea mobile voice application, and other innovative Internet solutions.
